Wisdom of Dis-ease 11: Message of Hyperthyroidism 疾病的智慧：系列 11 – 甲狀腺功能亢進症的启示

A 50-year old lady came in to consult for Hyperthyroidism. This is the hyperactive state of the thyroid gland manifested by feeling hot, loss of weight though appetite increase, tremors, sweatiness and most disturbingly, is the palpitation. The most worrying for her was the declining weight. Her condition was not that severe as to develop the ‘gold-fish eye’ appearance called exolphthalmous.

Apparently, before the onset of the illness, she underwent lots of emotional upsets in her business. She was very angry, disappointed and felt betrayed by her brother who turned his back on her. This was the brother she helped to build his business and yet her own flesh and blood betrayed her. She then decided to break away from him.

The obvious symptom of the hyperthyroidism was drastic loss of weight which frightened her and her friends and true enough, blood tests revealed hyperactive thyroid state. Conventional treatment is to take anti-hyperthyroid medicine for about one and the half year.

Upon analysis of her whole case with reference to the emotional upstir of anger and betrayal, I prescribed the Homeopathic remedy, Nux vomica.

During the process of healing, she became more composed and the anger towards her brother was better. With time, her palpitations improved and weight started to be more stable and then on an increase.

At the last follow-up, her blood test returned to normal thyroid function. It has been 9 months since the beginning of treatment.

This case illustrates the emotional link to her hyperthyroid state. Thyroid is the hormonal gland at the neck and it is the area at the same level of vocal cord for verbal expression. For her, she could not express her anger towards her brother and so it was channelled into the thyroid.

在疗愈的过程中，她的情绪安稳下来，对弟弟的愤怒缓和下来。接下来心跳也改善，体重稳定之后就上升。且血液报告也逐步的改善。

在最后一次的复诊，血液报告已归正常。疗程至今是九个月。

这个案显现情绪的干扰造成甲狀腺功能亢進症。甲状腺位于颈部，和发音的声带同样位置。她不能表达对弟弟的愤怒，最终愤怒转移到甲状腺。
