Day 2 of the workshop: Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs

I have never been a good story teller. However, things changed after my eldest grandson was born 5 years ago. He made me realize my Venusian(artistic) potential. I count myself fortunate to meet Susan as she is a good story teller. Her melodious tone caught my attention as it brought out the essence of the story. Of course, the set-up at the story-telling made me immersed in the story. After the story, we discussed on the meaning & wisdom behind the story.

Well, Snow White actually died 3 times (not once as depicted by most). Each time the 7 dwarfs managed to revive her but not the last death as the poisonous apple got stuck in her throat and choked her to death. She was then laid in a glass coffin. Most story went on saying that the prince kissed her and revived her. Apparently not. The glass coffin was being carried by the prince’s men. During the process of shifting, the glass coffin got shaken up and the apple was dislodged from her throat. It was her who opened the lid of the coffin, all by herself.

The wisdom behind the story is that Snow White had never learnt her lessons even though she was warned of her evil step-mother who disguised to trick her. She finally woke up from death through some shaking of the glass coffin, suggesting that most of us get to become more aware of something amiss in our life after many ‘shaking’ mishaps. She woke herself up and not by anybody else.

When it came to the painting session in the afternoon, the first thought that came in was now, instead of drawing one human, now I got to paint 8 humans! How? Again, the experienced Susan led us step-by-step patiently. I immersed myself again in the painting, putting myself into the fun! Slowly, the picture became obvious. The snow-capped mountain at the far-end (I was imagining myself looking at Annapurna at Nepal), the dancing circle of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and of course the openness of the space with the quaint little house! Personally, it was tough especially painting human figures, but I did it. I could not believe myself!

This round, I faced the feeling of fear of painting human figures. This is analogous to me having difficulty facing another person especially in relationships. I supposed it is the fear of myself as projected onto another person. Well, at least, this helped me realize I need to be more acceptance of myself before I could accept another person!

Again, I also painted the fun-side of me which can come in various forms as there are 8 figures in the painting…

Since Susan is coming to KL in May, grab the opportunity to unravel the inner wisdom of fairy tales within ourselves through her guidance in the painting process.
